From Winter Harbor, you can hop on a passenger ferry to Bar Harbor, enjoying a scenic ride across the bay.

Schoodic Point

Experience the wild beauty of Acadia’s quieter side at Schoodic Point, a 5 minute drive from The Bluff House Inn. Known for its dramatic surf, pink granite headlands, and panoramic ocean views, this hidden gem is perfect for a peaceful escape. Explore scenic coastal drives, walk along the Schoodic Head Trail, or simply relax and watch the waves crash against the rocks.

Biking acadia

Located in nearby Winter Harbor, Sea Schoodic Kayak & Bike offers convenient bike and e-bike rentals just minutes from The Bluff House Inn. E-bikes are a wonderful way to explore the Schoodic Loop, allowing riders to effortlessly enjoy the dramatic coastal scenery, granite shorelines, and ocean views that make the quiet side of Acadia so special.



For guests looking to venture farther, Mount Desert Island offers 45 miles of historic carriage roads that wind through forests, around lakes, and past many of Acadia National Park's most iconic landscapes. Whether you choose Schoodic's peaceful coastline or Mount Desert Island's famous carriage roads, biking is one of the best ways to experience Acadia at your own pace.

Scenic Hiking Trails

With over 125 miles of trails, Acadia offers hikes for every level—from gentle shoreline walks to challenging ridgelines. Popular options on the Schoodic Pensinsula are Buck Cove Mountain Trail and Schoodic Head Trail.  Popular Mount Desert Island hikes include Cadillac Mountain at sunrise, the Beehive Trail, and Jordan Pond’s Bubble Rock loop.

Scenic Drives

Five minutes from the Bluff House Inn, you can enjoy a 6 mile scenic drive on a one-way loop road around Schoodic Peninsula.  Don't miss Schoodic Point, a windswept, rocky point providing spectacular views of Mount Desert Island.


On the Mount Desert Island side of Acadia is the iconic 27-mile loop that passes by Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, Otter Cliff, Jordan Pond, and more. There are plenty of pull offs with unbeatable vista points.
